What is expected from our Host Families?

  • Provide a safe and clean environment which will offer the guest a total experience of living as a member of the family.
  • Provide a safe, secure, private bedroom for the student's sole use with suitable storage space for clothes, personal effects and study materials, and suitable facilities including a desk, a chair and adequate lighting for study purposes. Bed linen, blankets, pillows and towels are also to be provided.
  • Provide an orientation within the family home, the use of facilities and security. This should include household protocols and safety rules about access and the use of shared areas or facilities such as swimming pools, internet, telephone, mealtimes, visitors and appropriate  times to return home during the week and on weekends;
  • Hosts need to provide guests with keys or any alarms or passwords required to have free access to the homestay residence.
  •  The guest is to have free access to kitchen, living areas, laundry facilities and shared areas of the homestay.
  • Host families are expected to communicate with SayStay if any problems or concerns arise, as well any changes of circumstances in the household or change of address.
  • SayStay hopes to promote a cultural exchange, therefore our hosts are expected to respect cultural differences and beliefs of the guest.
  • The Host family is to provide 7 continental breakfasts and, 7 evening meals each week and lunch on the weekend if the student is home. If you are not home in the evening please leave the evening meal for the student to reheat
  • The Host Family is expected to show the guest the surrounding suburb and points of interest as local shops, parks and access to public transport.
  • SayStay expects to be informed if additional international students are hosted during the same period. A maximum of 3 international students are to be hosted at the same time.
  • Every resident of your household who is 18 years old or over is required to hold a Blue Card. Please contact us and we can help you obtain it.
  • SayStay appreciates any help the host family might provide the guest with settling into a new country. Helping your guest  to purchase a mobile phone or sim card, teaching he/she how to access public transport timetable and how to commute to their school,  and providing he/she with useful information regarding your surroundings is very appreciated.
